Cascade Farmstead sheep, also known as Cascade sheep, are able to thrive on pasture and hay alone, making them an excellent choice for producing grassfed lamb.

  • Cascade Farmstead ewes usually produce at least one lamb at one year of age and twins in their 2nd year; the lambs range from 5 to 8 lbs at birth and grow quickly.

  • The lambs can be butchered as early as 6 months of age, producing a flavorful carcass large enough to make it worth the effort, but still small enough to handle easily at butchering time and can be cut up and wrapped on your own kitchen counter.

  • The meat is tender and flavorful when butchered at any age, without any trace of the muttony flavor associated with store-bought "lamb."

  • The naturally short tails do not require docking, they are not prone to hoof rot or fly strike, and the fleece is naturally shed each spring or summer, making this hardy, easy care breed the most suitable for farmers and those on small acreages or farmettes who want to produce healthy meat for the family.

With a variety of colors and patterns, these sheep make a beautiful and interesting flock to behold in the pasture, and the naturally shed fleeces are particularly nice to spin due to a natural break in the fiber, which eliminates that scratchy "cut end" found in shorn fleeces.  Ranging from fine to coarse, the variety of fleece types provide many uses.  Fine fleeces are excellent for spinning, and coarser fleeces make excellent tanned pelts or sheepskin rugs that do not felt when put through the washer and dryer.
